        FAQ

Q: How many watts can a Power Queen 30A solar charge controller handle?

        A:

The Power Queen 12V/24V 30A MPPT Solar Charge Controller is designed to function with standard off-grid 12V or 24V solar panels that can handle high voltage or multiple panels with a combined voltage of up to 100V. It supports a maximum input solar power of 450W for a 12V battery system and 900W for a 24V system. The default configuration of the Power Queen 12V/24V 30 Amp MPPT Solar Charge Controller is set for a 12V LiFePO4 battery. However, it can also be adjusted to support 24V LiFePO4 batteries, as well as sealed and gel lead-acid batteries, by modifying the parameters.

Q: Is an MPPT too big?

        A:

However, there is a practical limit to the size of the solar array. If the array is too large, excess power will be wasted because the charge controller continuously limits the output to protect the system. It is generally recommended to size the solar array to 110%-125% of the charge controller's maximum rating to optimize performance without overloading the system.

Q: Does an MPPT make a battery overcharge?

        A:

Power Queen solar charge controllers employ maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technology to optimize solar energy production and regulate the battery charging voltage, ensuring efficient charging while preventing overcharging.

Q: What does an MPPT do when the battery is charged to full?

        A:

When the battery voltage indicates that the battery is fully charged, the charger will disconnect and stop drawing power from the MPPT controller. At this point, the battery charger effectively presents a high impedance to the MPPT controller.

Q: Can I connect an MPPT with an inverter directly?

        A:

No! MPPT solar charge controllers are designed to efficiently direct current into your depleted battery. Connecting an MPPT solar charge controller directly to an inverter is a bad idea. Doing so can potentially damage your solar system, and if no damage occurs, the inverter will receive zero input. Therefore, always avoid connecting MPPT controllers directly to inverters.
